Athletics
Grades
5-8 have the opportunity to participate in soccer, cross country,
volleyball, and basketball tournaments. Team members are expected
to keep up their academic performance and to behave according to our
school’s standards. If a team member’s performance is
falling behind, or if his/her behaviour is unacceptable, the classroom
or subject teacher will speak to the coach who, in turn, will speak
to the individual student. Failure to improve and comply may result
in dismissal from the team.
The WCS annual track and field day is held in May; all students participate. Top achievers in the various events from ages 7 to 13+ represent our school at the Chatham District Christian Track and Field Day held in late May or early June.
Science Fair
Every
other year the school has a Science Fair. Students in grades 7-8 are
required to work on a science fair project. Parents are invited to
attend the science fair displays, and winners in the grades 7/8 categories
enter their projects in the Redeemer College Science Fair. The next
Science Fair will be held during the 2008/09 school year.
Reading Buddies
Older
and younger students team up to read with each other once a month.
Students have the opportunity to encourage one another and develop
friendships with children of different ages, plus they are given time
to pray with each other.
Student Fund Raiser
Each year, WCS participates in a chocolate bar sale that enables the school to buy specific equipment or do special things that directly benefit the students. Proceeds fund class trips, sports equipment, sporting events, and student related activities
A-Team
Each year a staff representative works with members of the student body to form a team called the A-Team. Students from Grades 5-8 will be informed of this process early in the new year.
Speeches
To encourage and celebrate public speaking skills, all students participate in the annual speech competition. The winners in each category have the opportunity to compete with students in the legion.
Hot Lunch / Hotdog Days
On average twice a month students have the opportunity to buy lunch at school. The funds raised go to year end field trips.
